Children are naturally attracted to the beauties of Mother Nature and are very sensitive to the environment around them. It becomes a thing of stress for them as they learn about the harmful effects of climate change. It’s important to foster our children’s interest in nature, and channel this concern into positive energies and practical outcomes by teaching our children about climate change.

How can we engage together in doing our part for the safety of Mother Earth?

  1. Reduce, reuse, and recycle: Factories are the leading source of releasing harmful byproducts into the environment. Reducing, reusing, and recycling means we buy fewer products, and as the demand goes down, there’s less manufacturing and therefore effects on the environment. Teach your children the importance of fixing, instead of buying.

  1. Go plastic-free: Plastic products take up a lot of energy and fuel resources to get manufactured, and release many toxic by-products during the process. They take years to break down on their own, and as these products find their way to seas and oceans, they become lethal for marine life. Teach your children to go plastic-free as much as they can replace plastic straws, cups, and shoppers with recycle-paper.

  1. Take them litter picking: Littering affects wildlife and marine animals the most. Animals mistake litter with food and often get trapped in it which is often a risk to their lives. Explain the positive effects of litter picking on the environment to your children. Don’t forget to teach them to use proper protective gear like masks and gloves while litter picking, and tell them how to properly dispose of the litter as well.

  1. Encourage walking, cycling, and use of public transport: Burning less fuel means less carbon emission which therefore slows down global warming. Walking, and cycling not only help the environment but are also a means to stay fit and healthy. Using public transport is an effective way to reduce fuel burning. Thus, explain to your children what fuel-efficient transports are and how they help the environment.
